What Is Your Life’s Blueprint?

Six months before he was assassinated, King spoke to a group of students at Barratt Junior High School in Philadelphia on October 26, 1967.

I want to ask you a question, and that is: What is your life’s blueprint?

Whenever a building is constructed, you usually have an architect who draws a blueprint, and that blueprint serves as the pattern, as the guide, and a building is not well erected without a good, solid blueprint.

Now each of you is in the process of building the structure of your lives, and the question is whether you have a proper, a solid and a sound blueprint.

I want to suggest some of the things that should begin your life’s blueprint. Number one in your life’s blueprint, should be a deep belief in your own dignity, your worth and your own somebodiness. Don’t allow anybody to make you fell that you’re nobody. Always feel that you count. Always feel that you have worth, and always feel that your life has ultimate significance.

Secondly, in your life’s blueprint you must have as the basic principle the determination to achieve excellence in your various fields of endeavor. You’re going to be deciding as the days, as the years unfold what you will do in life — what your life’s work will be. Set out to do it well.

And I say to you, my young friends, doors are opening to you–doors of opportunities that were not open to your mothers and your fathers — and the great challenge facing you is to be ready to face these doors as they open.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great essayist, said in a lecture in 1871, “If a man can write a better book or preach a better sermon or make a better mousetrap than his neighbor, even if he builds his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door.”

This hasn’t always been true — but it will become increasingly true, and so I would urge you to study hard, to burn the midnight oil; I would say to you, don’t drop out of school. I understand all the sociological reasons, but I urge you that in spite of your economic plight, in spite of the situation that you’re forced to live in — stay in school.

And when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular moment in history to do it. don’t just set out to do a good job. Set out to do such a good job that the living, the dead or the unborn couldn’t do it any better.

If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can’t be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.

Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.

— From the estate of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dear Editor:

The media and politicians do everything possible to create a division among us, and to demonize groups they don’t like. Everything is on the table and under attack: income, race, work ethics, politics and even moral values. I think we are smarter than they think.

Here’s a question to ask yourself when you read something negative in the media: is the person trying to promote an agenda?

Think about this: if you are an atheist, do you want a Christian organization defining what you believe? If you are a teacher, do you want someone who has never had kids or been in school to tell you how to teach? This is what has happened to the Tea Party. Mainstream media and opposing political groups tried to set the narrative and tell the public what the Tea Party stands for.

In truth, the Tea Party believes in fiscal responsibility, a constitutionally limited government, and free market economics. That’s it. Simple.

If you are truly open minded, attend a meeting and form your own opinion of the Tea Party. You might be surprised how much you have in common with their common sense approach to government.

The Architect of Destruction

By*Maureen Scott*

“Obama comes from a community organizer background where it’s us against
them. But that’s not who we are. And that’s not the position the leader of
our Nation should take.” – Dr. Benjamin Carson

Obama appears to be a tormented man who is filled with resentment, anger,
and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in
the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate
and maintain power and control over others. Perhaps because, as a child,
he grew up around family members and mentors who instilled him with an
abiding bitterness toward the U.S. That bitterness seems not to have left him.

It is not the color of his skin that is a problem – for anyone in America.
Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his
heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country.

Think: Have we ever heard Obama speak lovingly of the U.S. or its people,
with deep appreciation and genuine respect for our history, our customs, our
sufferings and our blessings? Has he ever revealed that, like most patriotic Americans, he gets “goose bumps” when a band plays “The Star Spangled
Banner,” or sheds a tear when he hears a beautiful rendition of “America the
Beautiful?” Does his heart burst with pride when millions of American
flags wave on a National holiday – or is he moved to sadness and reflection
when someone plays “taps” on a trumpet? Has he ever felt the depth of our
admiration of the military, as lovers of those who keep America free feel
when soldiers march by? It is doubtful – because Obama did not grow up
sharing our experiences or our values. He did not sit at the knee of a grandfather or uncle who showed his medals and told of the bravery of his fellow
troops as they fought and tramped through foreign lands sacrificing for a
cause greater than their own lives. He didn’t have grandparents who told
stories of suffering and then coming to America, penniless, and the
opportunities they had for building a business and life for their children.

Away from this country as a young child, Obama didn’t delight in being part
of America and its greatness. He wasn’t singing our patriotic songs in
kindergarten, or standing on the roadside for a holiday parade and eating a
hot dog, or lighting sparklers around a campfire on July 4th as fireworks
exploded over head, or placing flags on the gravesites of fallen and beloved
American heroes.

Rather Obama was separated from all of these experiences. He doesn’t
really understand us and what it means to be an American. He is void of the
basic emotions that most feel regarding this country and is insensitive to
the instinctive pride we have in our national heritage. His opinions were
formed by those who either envied us or wanted him to devalue the United
States and the traditions and patriotism that unite us.

Obama has never given a speech that is filled with calm, reassuring,
complimentary, heartfelt statements about all the people in the U.S. Or one
that inspires us to be better, grateful, and proud that, in a short time, our
country became a leader, and a protector of so many. Quite the contrary,
his speeches always degenerate into mocking, ridiculing tirades as he faults
our achievements ,along with any of his critics, all for the sake of a
laugh, or to bolster his ego. He uses his Office to threaten and create fear
while demeaning and degrading anyone who opposes his policies and actions.
Unlike a secure leader, who has noble self-esteem and not false
confidence, Obama displays a cocky, haughty attitude and a dread of being critiqued.

Mostly, his time seems to be spent causing dissension, unrest, and anxiety
among the people rather than uniting us (even though he was presented to us
as the “Great Uniter”). He creates chaos for the sake of keeping citizens
separated, envious, aggrieved and ready to argue. Under his leadership
Americans have been kept on edge, rather than in a state of comfort and
security. He incites people to be aggressive toward, disrespectful of, and
retaliate against those of differing backgrounds and views. Through such
behavior, Obama has lowered the standards for self-control and mature restraint
to the level of rowdy, street-fighting gangs. When, instead, he should be
raising the bar for people to strive toward becoming more considerate,
tolerant, self-disciplined, self-sustaining, and self-assured.

Not a day goes by that he is not attempting to defy our laws, remove our
rights, over-ride established procedures, install controversial appointees,
enact divisive mandates, and assert a dictatorial form of power.

* Never has there been a leader of this great land who used such
tactics to harm and hurt the people and this country.

* Never have we had a President who spoke with a caustic, evil tongue
against the citizenry rather than present himself as a soothing, calming,
and trustworthy force.

* Never, in this country, have we experienced how much stress one man
can cause a nation of people – on a daily basis!

Obama has promoted the degeneration of peace, civility, and quality of
cooperation between us. He thrives on tearing us down, rather than building
us up. He is the Architect of the decline of America, and the epitome of a

Two Americans

Two Americas

Victor Davis Hanson

8/22/2013 12:01:00 AM – Victor Davis Hanson

Two quite different 21st-century Americas are emerging. The nation is not so much divided by “wars” between the rich and poor, men and women, or white and non-white. Instead, there is the world of reality versus that of triviality.

In the vast plains of the Dakotas and the American West, thousands of men and women of all classes and colors are fracking oil and gas to create new energy for millions of homeowners and commuters — while giving America a second chance at strategic energy independence.

Yet the beneficiaries mostly ignore these elemental efforts. They instead prefer to fixate on the alleged sexual creepiness of big-city political mediocrities like Bob Filner and Anthony Weiner.

As we sleep, 7,000 miles away there are still thousands of American soldiers of all races, ages, classes and genders in godforsaken conditions fighting the Taliban to allow millions in Afghanistan the chance for an alternative to medieval theocracy and to deter terrorists.

Meanwhile, back home, the nation is focused not on such existential struggles but transfixed by racial melodramas.

Was Oprah victimized by racial insensitively in a Swiss boutique when inquiring about purchasing a $38,000 crocodile purse? Were 10 black “American Idol” contestants really victims of “cruel and inhumane” treatment because their arrest records were brought up on the show? Should a rodeo clown — whose stock and trade is humor — be sent to “sensitivity
training” for wearing an Obama mask?

At the end of two years of near-record drought in California, the fate of hundreds of thousands of acres of irrigated farmlands, which feed millions of Americans and earn billions of dollars in critical foreign exchange, hinges on a snow-filled winter in the Sierra Nevada. You might never know of that razor’s edge from the state legislature. Rather than discussing new dams and canals, it debated whether transgendered youth in public schools could use the bathrooms of their choice and whether residents should need a permit to buy ammunition.

The historic role of government is changing before our eyes. President Obama is making the argument that the executive branch by presidential fiat can pick and choose which laws should and should not be faithfully executed — whether Obamacare, immigration amnesties or No Child Left Behind statutes.

The fate of the entire concept of voluntary tax compliance is currently endangered by the politicization of the Internal Revenue Service. Whether the government can monitor the communications of either reporters or average citizens depends on getting to the bottom of the National Security Agency and Justice Department/Associated Press scandals.

Instead, the media seem more interested in whether Obama is playing golf on Martha’s Vineyard.

Why is the country consumed by the trivial while snoozing through the essential?

We have become a nation of instant electronic communications — Twitter, Facebook, cell phones and the Internet — even as reading and math scores plummet in our schools, and newspapers and magazines go broke. We can communicate information at the speed of light but have trouble finding anything meaningful to send back and forth.

In prior times, writers, directors and actors endeavored to present television drama characterized by good acting and engaging scripts. Now, it is more profitable and apparently more entertaining just to film pseudo-celebrities talking, eating and agonizing over the day’s
banalities, as with “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”

Yet sometimes we get vicarious pleasure from watching oddballs do what most of us won’t or can’t do. Nineteenth-century-style men who cut timber, mine gold, drive big rigs and catch fish on the high seas are now big reality-television hits. Apparently, those who did not go to Ivy League schools or make a pile on Wall Street appear as more genuine Americans —
at least in our dreams and fantasies.

Yet part of America’s confusion about what is important and petty begins at the top.

Reggie Love, the erstwhile presidential assistant and “body man” to President Obama recently reported on the critical moments of the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. The president apparently was not glued to live video feeds, as the photos from his re-election campaign suggested.

“Most people were like down in the Situation Room,” Love said, “and [the president] was like, ‘I’m not going to be down there, I can’t watch this entire thing.’ So he, myself, Pete Souza, the White House photographer, Marvin [Nicholson], we must have played 15 games of spades.”

The commander in chief was playing cards while Navy Seals risked their lives to kill America’s No. 1 enemy — only later to use photos of himself watching live feeds for his re-election sloganeering: “bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive!”

That pretense sums up the growing void between real and trivial America.

Appears this won’t be going away anytime soon. The author should know what he’s talking about.

Truth from a Pilot

Pres. Obama was right when he said “we are a country of cowards” … and they reside on Capitol Hill.

“Hands” was my boss when I was on the USAF Stan Eval team when you and I were both stationed at Ramstein in the late 70’s. I guess “outspoken” is an understatement because Phil would tell it like it was and that is the main reason he was so well respected by all of those who ever worked for him. As far as I know he was the only pilot “living” to loop a C-130. His “outspokenness” did get him fired as the F-15 wing commander at Luke. At his going away speech he was given a 45 minute (or something close to that….I wasn’t there, just heard about it) standing ovation. Phil is kind of like a George Patton in that he needed to be wrapped up and saved for combat. He is a hell of a guy and I would fly with him anytime.

I would say every US fighter pilot, retired or on active duty, knows that Panetta and Dempsey both are full of crap when they said there was no time to send help to Benghazi. They claim it was a problem of “time/space.”  All my friends and I said, “Bullshit.” We know they could have gotten F-16s there from Aviano.

“Hands” Handley is a well-respected USAF fighter pilot. Here is his short resume and what he just wrote about Benghazi below that. If anything, Handley is pessimistic in his timeline of when F-16s could have reached Benghazi . I think they could have been airborne even sooner and turned quicker at Sig. The decision to not try was not based on capability. We had the operational capability in every way.

I hope Handley’s taxes are in order. His IRS audit is forthcoming.

Eagle Biography

Colonel Phil “Hands” Handley

Colonel Phil “Hands” Handley is credited with the highest speed air- to-air gun kill in the history of aerial combat. He flew operationally for all but 11 months of a 26-year career, in aircraft such as the F-86 Sabre, F-15 Eagle, and the C-130A Hercules.  Additionally, he flew 275 combat missions during two tours in Southeast Asia in the F- 4D and F-4E. His awards include 21 Air Medals, 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and the Silver Star.

Betrayal in Benghazi

Phil “Hands” Handley Colonel, USAF (Ret.)

The combat code of the US Military is that we don’t abandon our dead or wounded on the battlefield. In US Air Force lingo, fighter pilots don’t run off and leave their wingmen. If one of our own is shot down, still alive and not yet in enemy captivity, we will either come to get him or die trying.

Among America’s fighting forces, the calm, sure knowledge that such an irrevocable bond exists is priceless. Along with individual faith and personal grit, it is a sacred trust that has often sustained hope in the face of terribly long odds.

The disgraceful abandonment of our Ambassador and those brave ex-SEALs who fought to their deaths to save others in that compound is nothing short of dereliction-of-duty.

Additionally, the patently absurd cover-up scenario that was fabricated in the aftermath was an outright lie in an attempt to shield the President and the Secretary of State from responsibility.

It has been over eight months since the attack on our compound in Benghazi . The White House strategy, with the aid of a “lap dog” press has been to run out the clock before the truth is forthcoming. The recent testimonies of the three “whistle blowers” have reopened the subject and hopefully will lead to exposure and disgrace of those responsible for this embarrassing debacle. It would appear that the most recent firewall which the Administration is counting on is the contention “that there were simply no military assets that could be brought to bear in time to make a difference” mainly due to the unavailability of tanker support for fighter aircraft.

This is simply BS, regardless how many supposed “experts” the Administration trot out to make such an assertion.

The bottom line is that even if the closest asset capable of response was half-way around the world, you don’t just sit on your penguin ass and do nothing.

The fact is that the closest asset was not half-way around the world, but as near as Aviano Air Base, Italy where two squadrons of F-16Cs are based.

Consider the following scenario (all times Benghazi local): When Hicks in Tripoli receives a call at 9:40 PM from Ambassador Stevens informing him “Greg, we are under attack!” (his last words), he immediately notifies all agencies and prepares for the immediate initiation of an existing “Emergency Response Plan.”

At AFRICON, General Carter Ham attempts to mount a rescue effort, but is told to “stand down”.   By 10:30 PM an unarmed drone is overhead the compound and streaming live feed to various “Command and Control Agencies” and everyone watching that feed knew damn well what was going on.

At 11:30 PM Woods, Doherty and five others leave Tripoli, arriving in Benghazi at 1:30 AM on Wednesday morning, where they hold off the attacking mob from the roof of the compound until they are killed by a mortar direct hit at 4:00 AM.

So nothing could have been done, eh? Nonsense. If one assumes that tanker support really “was not available” what about this:

When at 10:00 PM AFRICON alerts the 31st TFW Command Post in Aviano Air Base, Italy of the attack, the Wing Commander orders preparation for the launch of two F-16s and advises the Command Post at NAS Sigonella to prepare for hot pit refueling and quick turn of the jets.

By 11:30 PM, two F-16Cs with drop tanks and each armed with five hundred 20 MM rounds are airborne. Flying at 0.92 mach they will cover the 522 nautical miles directly to NAS Sigonella in 1.08 hours. While in-route, the flight lead is informed of the tactical situation, rules of engagement, and radio frequencies to use.

The jets depart Sigonella at 1:10 AM with full fuel load and cover the 377 nautical miles directly to Benghazi in 0.8 hours, arriving at 1:50 AM which would be 20 minutes after the arrival of Woods, Doherty and their team.

Providing that the two F-16s initial pass over the mob, in full afterburner at 200 feet and 550 knots did not stop the attack in its tracks, only a few well placed strafing runs on targets of opportunity would assuredly do the trick.

Were the F-16s fuel state insufficient to recover at Sigonelli after jettisoning their external drop tanks, they could easily do so at Tripoli International Airport , only one-half hour away.

As for those hand-wringing naysayers who would worry about IFR clearances, border crossing authority, collateral damage, landing rights, political correctness and dozens of other reasons not to act” screw them. It is high time that our “leadership” get their priorities straight and put America’s interests first.

The end result would be that Woods and Doherty would be alive. Dozens in the attacking rabble would be rendezvousing with “72 virgins” and a clear message would have been sent to the next worthless POS terrorist contemplating an attack on Americans that it is not really a good idea to “tug” on Superman’s cape.

Of course all this would depend upon a Commander In Chief that was more concerned with saving the lives of those he put in harm’s way than getting his crew rested for a campaign fund raising event in Las Vegas the next day. As well as a Secretary of State that actually understood “What difference did it make?”, or a Secretary of Defense whose immediate response was not to the effect that “One of the military tenants is that you don’t commit assets until you fully understand the tactical situation.” Was he not watching a live feed from the unarmed drone, and he didn’t understand the tactical situation?

YGBSM! (“You’ve Gotta Be S**tting Me”)

Ultimately it comes down to the question of who gave that order to stand down? Whoever that coward turns out to be should be exposed, removed from office, and face criminal charges for dereliction of duty. The combat forces of the United States of America deserve leadership that really does “have their back” when the chips are down.
